A Colmeia

A Colmeia, meaning "The Hive" in Portuguese, is an innovative modular housing project located in Parobé, Brazil. The name reflects the hexagonal geometry of the six modules, evoking the structure of a hive and symbolizing a strong, interconnected community. Built using cutting-edge 3D concrete printing technology, this project is designed to create efficient, sustainable living spaces that foster a sense of shared identity and harmony with the environment.

The six modules in A Colmeia are based on hexagons, creating a distinctive architectural rhythm that maximizes space and enhances the connection between units. There are two distinct typologies within the project. The first typology includes a lofted second floor, offering extra living space and access to a private outdoor terrace. The second typology remains single-level but also provides access to a terrace on the first floor, ensuring that all residents enjoy outdoor living spaces regardless of the unit type.

This design was conceived to be assembled on-site with maximum efficiency. The walls and other key components will be printed on-site in a controlled, warehouse-like space and transported to the construction site. This on-site production significantly reduces construction timelines and material waste, enhancing the project's overall sustainability.

Sustainability is central to the design, with solar panels integrated into the roofs to reduce energy consumption and contribute to a lower environmental impact. The use of 3D printing technology,coupled with the on-site assembly approach, ensures a more streamlined and eco-friendly construction process.
